What We Believe |
|||
Statement of Faith1) We are part of the world-wide Christian body of believers and we confess our faith in one God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that God sent His son, Jesus, into the world to save us from our sins. Through his death on the cross we are redeemed from the power and guilt of sin. Through his resurrection we place our hope in eternal life in the Kingdom of God.2) We believe all Christians need a personal faith in Jesus Christ and to seek to become more like him. We believe all Christians need to be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to become 'more Christ-like.' 3) Our final authority in all that we do is Jesus Christ. His nature is revealed in the scriptures and present among his people through the Holy Spirit. 4) We recognise the Bible as the primary authority for understanding God's revelation. 5) We practice baptism for believers only. 6) As a church we are a family, sharing with other believers as we worship, work and grow together for Gods' glory. 7) It is the responsibility of each local congregation to discover the will of Christ for the church. 8) We believe all members of the church are called to ministry. Ministry does not just include preaching and teaching, but also evangelism, pastoring, guiding, serving, praying, healing, administration, hospitality and so on. 9) Although a local congregation, we seek to work with other Christians and churches wherever possible and helpful. 10) We seek to share in the mission of God in the world. This includes evangelism and the aim of sharing the love of God with all people we come into contact with. 11) We affirm the need for freedom of conscience and so we accept differences amongst us. 12) We live in hope of the return of Christ and the transforming of all creation. We are members of the The Baptist Union of Great Britain. We have adopted the Baptist Union 'Safe to Grow' policy with all our youth work. |
